Tuomo Väänänen ‎– A Small Flood [Ljudverket]

0.00

“A Small Flood” is the first full-length album by Ljudverket co-founder Tuomo Väänänen. All the label’s familiar references — dub, techno and ambient — are there, and while the end result doesn’t directly fit to any of these genres, there’s enough familiar ground even for the style-specific listener.

Unlike many electronic albums with escapist or dystopian agendas, “A Small Flood” takes place in our own physical and immediate world. This is most evident on tracks like the opener “Waiting Halls”, “Winners” and “Temple”, which are all constructed on top of field recordings. On other tracks, such as “New to the System”, “Sloth” and “A Small Flood”, this directness becomes audible as technical imperfections in the recording process, or as the lacking pair of extra hands to control all the parameters while trying to record everything live in one take.

This album is suitable material for deep listening, and with enough amplification, will also provide physical pleasure.
